Getting Started: Is An Online Business Right For You?
Starting up your own online venture can be extremely rewarding, but as with any business, there are pressures and challenges involved. Understanding what those challenges are, and readying yourself to deal with those pressures up front a great first step toward achieving success. It’s easy to be overcome with enthusiasm when you come across ads on the net like “Beach Bum Makes $235,000 From Laptop This Month” (which is a real, popular ad right now I’ve seen on many blogs). Don’t get me wrong, you should be excited an optimistic about possibilities like this, but keep your cool and maintain a level head. Rome was not built in a day. Even though monthly income like the one this ad is portraying is attainable, it’s not likely that you’ll get there in the first month. Most of the big money makers out there - the power bloggers, the super affiliates, the eBay powersellers etc. - have been online for years, have established networks and all have high levels of traffic. The most important thing in the beginning, though, is not to get discouraged and to stick with it. Every day that you learn a new technique, find a new tool or increase your RSS subscription is an opportunity to make more money. And if you’ve got a good idea, solid Search Engine Optimization and a good mix of Marketing Strategies, you can make SERIOUS money online very quickly and become a big dog yourself! If you’re new to making money online, the good news is that DigitalEntrepreneur.net is here to help. Subscribe today to our RSS feed or our free updates via email (see the link the right side bar) and start yourself on the path to learning how to start making real money online today. The shameless plug aside, here are some questions you may want answered before deciding that making the commitment to start an online Business is right for you…
What Kinds Of Skills Will I Need?
You will almost certainly need technical skills. Without the right information, you’ll be at a disadvantage. It is a cold hard fact that you’ll need to have a basic level of understanding of the following topics (to name just a few) if you want to be truly successful:
- Web Design
- Search Engine Optimization
- Keywords and Meta Tags
- Link Building and Direct Submission
- Building Niche Sites
- Using Social Media and Networking Software as a Marketing Tool
- Affiliate Marketing
Whether or not any of the above terms are foreign to you, we’re here to help. All of the above topics will be covered at length on this site. We’ll direct you to the best information, products and resources to get you up and running quickly and for the least amount of money possible. Check our resources page to get access to the best books, courses and online resources (many of them are FREE) to boost your knowledge.
What Are Your Motives?
Reminding yourself why you want to start your own online business is going to be critical to maintaining your motivation if the going starts to get tough and pressures start to build. Everyone has setbacks on their journey to success, it’s part of learning and growing with your business. Experts and online moguls didn’t make it overnight. Everyone who’s “made it” has burned the midnight oil and been stressed out at some point. Knowing why you’re committed is a key to maintaining the motivation you’ll need to be great. Here are some reasons why I took the plunge, and why, I’m sure you will too:
- Independence - Working for yourself and being able to dictate your own schedule, free time and attain a good work life balance is amazingly fulfilling. Whether you want to spend more time traveling, pursue personal interests and hobbies or just be more available to your family and friends, working for yourself online is a fantastic way to find the independence you need to start living the way that you’ve always wanted to.
- More Money/Financial Security - This is the biggest reason most people start online businesses - it’s a no brainer! Although you can’t buy happiness, you need it to live freely and enjoy life. This site will show you that its very easy to make multiple streams of internet income quickly if you know what you’re doing, even at only a few hours a day in your spare time.
- Greater Job Satisfaction - Self employment allows you to make money doing things that interest you, and that you can be passionate about. You do, of course, have to take responsibility for your successes AND failures, but as we’ll show you - starting a business online is one of the lowest risk ways to start an entrepreneurial life because the main expense you’ll have is your computer (which you’ve already got if you’re reading this, right?).
- Achievement and Success - Learning new skills, taking the plunge, starting your own business and making money doing it feels awesome. Period.
Are You Prepared For The Pressures?
The pressures of being self-employed, even part time, are inescapable. You may have seen hundreds of ads that tell you that you can make money in your sleep only doing a tiny amount of work. The message is enticing, sure, but it’s completely false. OK, I’ll admit that some people who already have enormous resources and knowledge to leverage might be able to make a ton of money in their first day/week/month on a new venture or business. But the reality is that if you’re starting from scratch, it’s next to impossible. Growing your online revenue is going to take time, dedication and hard work. Occasional pressure is a given. Accept it, arm yourself and stay confident! You’ve got a The Digital Entrepreneur Network to use as a resource.
Let’s get started.
